Keep “home base” stocked with nutritious snacks (Smart Snacking for Kids) and prepare balanced meals. Eat together as often as possible because children tend to eat more nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables, and fewer soft drinks and fried foods when they dine with their families.

They have tons :)

Or, you could pick up things at the grocery store like cuisines, for example the 'Kid Cuisine's'. I use to love those when I was a kid. They have all different kinds of meals like Chicken Fingers %26amp; Macaroni. For breakfast, you could just throw some bagels in the toaster or have cereal.

Good luck =)
You must have a defective mother!! She should have already taught you to cook.

I am so sorry you are going to starve your poor little brother to death.
Lunch- Tyson Chicken Fingers

Breakfast- frozen pancakes , waffles etc.

Does anyone have good recipes for a tortilla meal and a snack?

Hi... Can anyone help me? Its for my cooking class and i have no idea what to do with a Tortilla and i cant make it into a quesidilla. thx.Does anyone have good recipes for a tortilla meal and a snack?
Can you make it into a Chocolate Quesedilla? If so - use 2 tortillas, on the inside use a combo of 1/2 semi-sweet chocolate chips %26amp; 1/2 white chocolate chips (or whatever other flavor you desire). Sprinkle with cinnamon %26amp; sugar mixture. Cook until toasted on each side. Enjoy!Does anyone have good recipes for a tortilla meal and a snack?

My mom used to spread a tortilla with butter, and then cinnamon and sugar and put it under the broiler for about 2-3 minutes - it gets crispy and yummy!

As for a main meal, here's my fav:

1 pkg flour tortillas

1 can Campbell's Southwestern Cream of Chicken with green Chiles (or a can of cream of chicken and a can of diced green chiles)

1 16 oz container sour cream

1 14 oz can chicken meat

1 lb shredded cheese - preferrably a white cheese - jack or moz are best

1 sm can green enchilada sauce.

Mix the sour cream, soup, and chicken together - then layer the casserole: flour tortilla, soup mixture, cheese, green sauce, repeat - top with cheese and olives if you like - bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes to warm through -

This recipe is best if you make it the day before, so that the liquids soak into the tortillas a little...
the tornilla meal is good recipe

------------------Quick Tortilla Chips Snack

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 parts salsa (as hot as you like, hotter goes better in this case)

1 part hummus (I've used regular and roasted red pepper)

chopped leek

diced red pepper

tortilla chips

Directions:

Pretty easy, just chop the red pepper and leek (you could also try other veggies, this is all I had).

Mix the salsa, hummus and veggies together.

Serve with tortilla chips, you could also use soy cheese and melt it under the broiler, I personally don't really like the stuff. I topped mine with a bit of sauerkraut.

Enjoy!

Serves: as much as you want

Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

---------------------Baked Tortilla Chips

INGREDIENTS:

* 8 fat free flour tortillas

* Cooking spray

* 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)

PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lay out tortillas and briefly spray both sides with oil. Add chili powder if desired. Cut each tortilla into eight triangles. Bake on cookie sheets for 8-10 minutes until crisp and golden.

Makes 8-10 servings.

--------------Flour Tortillas

Ingredients:

* 3 cups of white all purpose flour

* 陆 tsp of salt

* 1 tsp baking powder

* 陆 cup of lard or vegtable shortening

* 1 cup of hot water

Instructions:

Mix the flour and salt. Mix in the lard by hand until the mixture resembles small peas. Add the water slowly until you have a soft elastic ball. You may need to add a little more or less water, but do it slowly. You may not really need as much water as you think you do. Knead until smooth. Cover with a damp towel and then let rest 15 minutes.

Make about 7-9 equal size balls. Flatten and roll each ball into a flat round disk. Cook on a very hot cast iron skillet. No oil is necessary. Flip when bottom side is golden, the top should be bubbling slightly when ready. Use a spatula to lift the edge and check for doneness before flipping completely. Keep the cooked tortillas warm by covering with a damp towel while you continue to cook.

------------Wheat Tortillas

To make wheat tortillas, use the above flour tortilla recipe and substitute wheat flour for 1/4 to 2/3 of the white flour. Wheat flour is a little tougher, so the amount used is based on your personal taste. You may substitute, all the white flour if you wish but use less than called for.

---------------Corn Tortillas

Unlike four tortillas, corn Tortillas usually do not contain any added oil. They can be made with corn flour, but the traditional recipe uses something called masa harina or masa flour.

Masa harina is made from corn soaked in lime and then dried and ground into a powder. I know it doesn't sound very appetizing, but masa is a traditional ingredient in many dough containing Latin American dishes, such as tortillas and tamales. Masa can be found in any Hispanic neighborhood and some larger supermarkets as well. The brand I usually buy is made by Quaker, an American company. Many hot sauce catalogs also sell masa, though usually at an exorbitant price. If you can not find masa, try the recipe with regular corn flour (not corn meal or corn starch). The results are acceptable, but they are not authentic in taste and usually tougher in texture than tortillas made with masa.

Ingredients:

* 2 cups masa harina or corn flour

* 1 录 cups hot water

Instructions:

Mix masa and water by hand until all of the tortilla mix is moistened and a dough forms. Add more water if necessary. Cover with damp towel and let rest 10 minutes.

Make about 12 one inch balls. Flatten and roll each ball into a tortilla. Cook on a very hot cast iron skillet. No oil is necessary. Flip when the edge starts to stiffen and the top looks dry. Use a spatula to lift the edge and check for doneness before flipping completely. Keep the cooked tortillas warm by covering with a damp towel while you continue to cook.

---------------Tortilla soup

Ingredients:

* 4 or more tortillas

* 4 cups of chicken broth

* 2 tsp oil

* 1 cup shredded cooked chicken

* 1/3 cup chopped onion

* 10 oz (1 can) of chopped tomatoes and green chiles

* 4 oz (1 small can) chopped green chiles

* 1 lime

* 1 tsp lime juice.

Instructions:

Heat oil in a large pan. Saut茅 the onion until translucent. Add chiles, broth, chicken, and tomatoes. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Stir in lime juice and optionally salt and pepper. Pour into soup bowls and add tortilla cut in slices. Garnish with lime slice.

It is best to use tortillas that were rolled slightly thick for this recipe. If you use thin tortillas, fry them in a small amount of oil before adding to the soup.

****tortilla cooking hints:

* Practice making tortillas before you make them for guests. Its not difficult, but it does take a few times before you get the ';feel'; for the dough.

* Only flip once. For some reason, they do not taste good at all if flipped several times during cooking.

* Don't worry about a few burnt spots, they actually add flavor. Trust me on this. But remember I did say a few.

* I have never had good results cooking tortillas on something other than cast iron.

* If the only tortillas you are familiar with come from taco bell, you may not be aware that not all tortillas are paper thin. You may roll your tortilla to about 录 inch thickness. Any thicker than that and the outside burns before the inside cooks. Thin tortillas are used in fajitas and similar dishes. Thicker tortillas are common in soups and other dishes where they will be soaked.

* Don't have a rolling pin? I use a wine bottle. My neighbor swears she uses an old clean broomstick.

* When rolling out your tortilla, some people find it easier/neater to put the dough ball in between two sheets of wax paper. Another alternative is to put it in a small plastic bag and then flatten it out.

* Old stale tortillas go great in soup.
Tortilla Meal: Brown a pound of ground beef and add taco seasoning to it. Add a can of red beans to the beef. Get a glass baking dish and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Lay a tortilla down in the dish and spread some Cheese Con Queso dip/spread on the tortilla. Add a layer of the beef and beans. Place another tortilla on top and continue the same process until you have about 3-4 layers. On the top layer just spread the cheese con queso and over top of that spread salsa. Bake in the oven at 450 for about 15-20 minutes. Take it out, let it cool and enjoy.

Also try using: Sour cream, guacamole, refried beans, peppers, etc.

My boyfriend and I love this recipe and its so quick and easy.

As for your tortilla snack, just get creative and have fun with it. Try making a peanutbutter and banana sandwich out of it and toast it in a skillet. Or try making smores by placing a few marshmellows on the tortilla, then a few pieces of chocolate, chocolate chips, or even chocolate syrup. Then crumble a graham cracker over top...fold the tortilla in half, and toast it in the skillet just the same.

Goodluck :-)
Use hummus add some sliced black olives, lettuce...anything you want and make wrap ?

    have a bunch of cut up fruit on a platter and if you want it a little sweet, sweeten it with splenda. have a bowl of fat free ranch dressing and a bunch of veggies such as celery, carrots, tomatoes, and califlower. If you want something to drink, avoid soda. Just get water or iced tea with lemons and splenda. To the tea, sometimes it is even good to add a timy tiny bit of cranberry juice for flavor. Any FILLING vegan meal and snack recommendations? (recipes welcomed)?

    I've been a lacto-ovo veggie for over 10 years and in recent times have shifted towards a vegan diet. My very fast metabolism necessitates that I either eat either frequently or take in a lot of calories to get full. I've noticed that I tend to get hungry within a couple hours after ingesting vegan meals I prepare for myself, which is somewhat of a nuisance. Any recommendations for foods that can keep my energy levels up for a longer period of time are greatly appreciated. Sub-question: What makes a meal filling- is it fats, protein, general caloric content? Thanks!Any FILLING vegan meal and snack recommendations? (recipes welcomed)?
    get some soy chicken, salsa, sweet chilli sause, lettuce and put them in tortilla wraps, they are delisious!Any FILLING vegan meal and snack recommendations? (recipes welcomed)?
    Thanks to all of you for taking the time to answer with some great suggestions. I made a tasty wrap, which seemed to hold off my appetite for a little while. Clif-type bars make an excellent quick snack, and I now have plenty more cooking to do... Report Abuse

    Protein takes the longest to digest so make sure you include some protein with your veggies. Chilli is good and easy to make, I eat my chili with freshly made sour dough bread that I bake myself.

    Also consider Clif bars for a snack to have around if you get hungry and are not able to get a full vegan meal. They are not snacks but meal replacements - that doesn't mean you can't have one as a snack though!
    Red beans and rice with a heaping slab of cajun tofu will make you full. Don't forget a 40 oz Heineken to go along with it.
    Protein takes a long time to digest making it very filling im sure you know of protein rich foods other than meats since your a vegan.
    HI,

    Heres a recipe you can go to the link below and try some more recipes, theres a whole bunch. Have fun. Let me know if I can help you with anymore questions.

    When the maker of the film Supersize Me ate nothing but food from a well-known fast-food chain three times a day for a month, the diet nearly killed him. His fiance, a vegan chef and the author of this great cookbook, brought him back from the brink with her healthy cooking.

    SIMPLE SOLUTION: Here is one of her delicious creamy soups made without dairy, but sure to satisfy. Leeks give lots of iron-rich mineral nourishment, while garlic and onions add their immune-boosting and heart-healthy benefits. Paired with a crisp salad, Creamy Potato-Leek Soup makes a perfect cozy Fall supper.

    INGREDIENTS

    1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

    2 leeks, white and light green parts washed and sliced into 1/4-inch slices

    2 cups chopped yellow onion

    1/2 teaspoon sea salt

    3 cloves garlic, minced

    2 large Yukon Gold potatoes (about 1 pound), peeled and cubed into 1/2-inch cubes

    4 cups vegetable stock

    2-3 teaspoons fresh rosemary leaves

    1. Heat a 4-quart soup pot over medium heat and add the oil.

    2. Add the leeks, onion, and sea salt and saute for about 5 minutes, stirring often, until the onion begins to turn translucent.

    3. Add the garlic and stir well. Cook for 1 minute more.

    4. Add the potatoes and vegetable stock, cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Cook 20 minutes.

    5. Remove the soup from the heat and use an immersion/stick blender to blend the soup in the pot or ladle the soup into a blender, 1 cup at a time. Blend the soup with the fresh rosemary leaves until smooth and free of chunks. Pour smooth soup into a heat-proof bowl and continue until all of the soup has been blended.

    6. Transfer the blended soup back to the original soup pot and warm over low heat until heated through. Serve hot.

    Serves 4 - 6.

    good luck tell me how it turns out...

    Get some chicken wings and put them in the oven on a cookie sheet at 425 degrees and cook for 45 minutes. Until juices run clear. Then drain off the grease and put the wings into a bowl and toss with Frank's buffalo wings sauce they are so good and easy. We love those too.

    Take some cream cheese a lb of cooked shrimp and mix together. Then spread it on a cookie sheet and then pour cocktail sauce over it and eat with your favorite cracker we like Wheat Thins. They hold the dip best.
