Slimming snack recipes?

Slimming snack recipes?


I am having a get together with my female friends and want to make some little snacks to go with our wine that are not stodgy and fattening. The other people usually put out a large plate of cheeses and biscuits when they have it but it does nothing for the figure. Any ideas please, something you can eat with your fingers. Thanks

Hi!





Try these:





Get some carrots, parsnips and potatoes.





Using a vegetable peeler, peel the vegetables into thin 'ribbons'.





Put them in a oven tray and thinly drizzle them with some olive oil (flavoured is nice) but don't worry if you don't have any flavoured.





Then bake them in a hot oven (160c) for about 15 to 20 mins.





We have them all the time, and they are delicious. Much less salt and fat than your usual bags of crisps etc.

Oh yeah. Cheese and biscuits are definitely not good for the figure.





Chips and Salsa would be good. Chips have fat, but Salsa is usually fat free.





A vegetable platter with vinegrette, or low-fat vinegrette, which would have less fat and more flavor than the usual ranch. (to make the veggies a little better to eat, blanch and shock them.) Or pita and veggies with hummus.





Bruscetta would be good too.

2 Lebanese cucumber (sliced vertically 3 - 4mm thick)


cucumber pickles (finely chopped)


3 tablespoons cream cheese (light)


2 tablespoons of yoghut (plain)


2 tablespoon sour cream (light, non-fat)


a few drops of fresh lemon juice


2 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped





1) Whip the cream cheese, yoghut, sour cream, dill and cucumber pickle together until the mixture is smooth, add lemon juice to taste, (add a bit icing sugar if it's too sour)


2) Spread the mixture on a piece of bread (any kind you like)


3) Put the cucumber slices on the mixture, sandwich it with another piece of bread.

2 bananas, cut into small cubes


1/4 lemon juice


1 tablespoon honey


cinnamon powder


spring roll wrappers (1 cut into 4 small wrappers)


beaten egg


cooking oil for frying


icing sugar





1) mix banana, lemon juice, honey and cinnamon powder in a bowl as filling


2) Place spring roll sheet with one point toward you, moisten upper edges with egg.


3) Spoon filling in center of wrapper and fold bottom up to cover the filling, fold over left and right corners so they meet in the center.


4) Roll up, seal the final corner with egg. Repeat with remaining spring roll wrappers.


5) Heat the oil in wok (or fryer) to 160 degree C, test the heat with bamboo chopstick, when you see bubbles around the chopstick, it means the oil is hot enough, carefully put 3 or 4 rolls in the oil, deep fry for 2 minutes or till golden brown on all sides.


6) Remove, drain on paper towel, sprinkle icing sugar before serve.
Rice crackers with a variety of toppings such as Parma ham and baby vine tomatoes, smoked salmon and cucumber, you could also have succulent king prawns with a spicy tomato/chilli dip or some good quality ham rolled around cottage cheese and chives. Another nice idea is to stuff baby vine tomatoes with boiled rice, onions, mushrooms, ham then topped with a grating of cheese. Good luck and have fun.
Carrot, celery, cauliflower florets....there are some good dips that are low calorie or make some with low fat cheese, natural yoghurt etc...
vegetable crisps are really nice. You shave off thin slices of sweet poato, parsnip, beetroot and carrot with a vegetable peeler, put one or 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a big baking tray and bake them on a low heat until they're crispy. I got that off Gillian Mckeith.
I personally think wheat thins and Colby jack cheese works.
