What are fun, simple and good tasting snack recipes for kids?
I make this kind of milkshake, smoothie type of thing for my kids and they love it. I put 1 banana, 2 good spoonfuls of peanut butter, and then some milk (sometimes just a little squeeze of choc sauce) and blend it up.

I make a big batch and keep it in the fridge. It's filling and has protien, calcium, fruit, and a little sweet. I like it too.

Other than that I have also been buying my kids dried fruit to snack on cuz I can just keep it in a bag in the car.

Granola bars are always good. Homemdae or storebought. There are a lot of granola recipes out there and I had a really really good one but I cannot find it.

Apples and peanut butter is quick and simple.

Smoothies are also good. One of my faves is 1 red apple, about 1 cup frozen red grapes, 1 banana, and orange juice blended up with ice cubes.

Make your own popsicles with 1 pint blueberries, 1 can pears+ 2 tbsp juice, 2 blueberry yougurt cups. Blend up and pour into popsicle molds. You can use any berry or fruit of course.

Roll up some apple or cherrie pie filling int pie dough and make mini fruit pies.

If you have one of those old electric sandwich makers (not a george forman grill) butter 2 peices of bread and fill with the apple of cherry pie filling. Grill until the bread is golden brown and sprinkle with powered sugar. You could also do it with a skillet.

Make up a couple slices of toast, Spread on some apple sauce and then put on a couple slices of cheese (try to avoid American if you can) and stick under the broiler until the cheese melts and just starts to turn golden brown.

Also you could roll up hot dogs or lili smokies in crescent rolls. Oscar Meyer has now started making mini dogs and those would be good too.
2 small bananas, broken into chunks

1 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries

1 (8 ounce) container vanilla low-fat yogurt

3/4 cup milk

DIRECTIONS

In a blender, combine bananas, frozen strawberries, yogurt and milk. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

1 (12 ounce) package crispy corn and rice cereal

5 ounces slivered almonds

6 ounces toasted, chopped pecans

3/4 cup butter

3/4 cup dark corn syrup

1 1/2 cups light brown sugar

In a large bowl, mix crispy corn and rice cereal, slivered almonds and toasted, chopped pecans.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and mix with dark corn syrup and light brown sugar. Pour the mixture over the crispy corn and rice cereal mixture. Stir and shake to coat all the nuts and cereal.

Pour the coated mixture into the prepared roasting pan. Stirring approximately every 15 minutes, cook 1 hour in the preheated oven. Cool on wax paper, and store in airtight containers.

You can substitute grape juice or cranberry juice for the pineapple and orange juice.

3 packages unflavored gelatin

3/4 cup pineapple juice

1 cup boiling water

1 cup orange juice

Soften gelatin in a little pineapple juice. Add 1 cup boiling water slowly, stirring constantly until gelatin is dissolved. Add remaining juices. Pour into 9 X 12 inch pan. Chill until set. Cut into finger lengths. Store in covered container in refrigerator. Makes 72 pieces, each having 4 calories,

3 mg vitamin C, and 0 mg sodium.

BANANA SMOOTHIE

Make up your own variations using other fruits and juices.

1 small frozen banana, cut into chunks

1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt

1/4 cup orange juice

Here are a couple of my favorites.

Make a simple cheese cake filling by adding cream cheese, condensed milk and a bit of lemon or lime juice. and add it to graham crackers or ginger cookies.

Make powdered sugar frosting and graham cracker sandwich cookies.

Make trail mix with favorite nuts, and candies. I use M%26amp;M's, mixed nuts, dried pineapple and raisins and if i have left over pretzels I use those.. Make individual containers of each and let the kids make their own combo.

caramel apple cups. slice apple and drizzle a bit of caramel over them, use the tiny cocktail swords if kids are old enough.

Stuff to bake.. flour-less peanut butter cookies, pretzels,

homemade ice cream... especially if they get to hand crank it- good for a neighborhood kids day.

I assume you want things kids can make, with supervision.

Grilled Cheese sandwich, French Toast, Toad in a Hole, etc.

Piggies in a blanket, take a little more preparation.

Peanut butter %26amp; jelly, or Peanut butter %26amp; banana,

these can also be coated %26amp; fried like French Toast.

Raw veggie crudites %26amp; simple dips.
Make your own trailmix. Set up bowls each with a different ingreadient such as one with pretzels, another with goldfish, one with cheeze its, another with m%26amp;ms, and one with doritos. Give each child a plastic cup to scoop as much of each ingrediant.

This works great when my 5 year old daughter has her friend over because then the kid who doesn't like pretzels doesn't have to have any, and the kid allergic to cheese doesn't eat the doritos and so on.

Adding dried fruit makes it healthier!! And the kids like the idea of doing it themselves!
These are some things that I did when the kids were home--and now the grandkids.

Ants on a log...cream cheese filled in a celery stick with raisins (ants) marching along the top. Can also use peanut butter instead of crm chs

Sliced apple with cinnamon over top and dip into peanut butter (1 Tbs)

Pop corn sprinkled with powder cheese, or spices or just a bit of melted butter

Cinnamon toast. always a favorite

Raggity Ann or Andy salad. Put a scoop of cottage cheese on a plate, a peach half midway then put raisins for eyes, shredded carrots or sticks, or shredded cheese for hair, or even shredded lettuce...let them design their own, it will keep them busy, they will eat something good and be creative at the same time!

Pioneer, aka,Celery wagons. celery stick with carrot slices for wheels and a slice of american cheese for the cover, or make sailboats using toothpicks and slice the cheese as a triangle. Stick into celery, apple, half a baked potato as the vehicle, boat, wagon, whatever, add a few olives as ship mates and watch em have fun!

Of course, homemade fruit popcicles, smoothies,

Homemade ice cream. I have a recipe for individual baggies---easy, fun and any kid can do it. Add fruit or nuts or choco chips or whatever for fun and variety. Write me if you are interested.

Saltine crackers with just some butter and jelly

Ritz crackers with a bit of soft cream cheese, a slice of beef stick or summer sausage and a sliced pickle on top....yummm...I use this often for holiday appetizers and people love it.

Deviled eggs

Any more? Hopefully these ideas help. Enjoy your summer!!

My kids (7 and 2) like making peanut butter logs--celery, peanut butter and either dried cranberries or dried cherries sprinkled on top. Raisins work too.

They also are HUGE fruit bats--no fruit is safe in my house!!! Cheese and crackers is nice, maybe rice cakes with peanut butter, trail mix, dried fruit, etc. The other thing my kids love is edamame. You can buy them precooked, just defrost and sprinkle with salt if you choose.
My three year old daughter loves making smoothies with half milk, half yogurt, fruit, honey and a little vanilla.

I also leave out a fruit bowl that she can just help herself too.

I'm going to try their yogurt cereal bars when it's not to hot to run the oven midday.

This site gives suggestions for how to tell if a premade snack is actually healthy and reviews a cookbook on making kids snacks:

My son and I make fruit kabobs all the time, just cut up a bunch of fruit and put it in on a skewer in a nice pattern. Sometimes we switch it up and add marshmallows too :) He loves it because he helps make it.

Also Frozen Grapes or bananas are always a good choice for a quick fun snack.

Check out this site, it has given me a lot of ideas over the years.
